Week 1: the purpose of Education

Week 1: The purpose of Education

Reflect on how your understanding of the purpose of education is visible in your classroom.

What is the purpose of Education?

The purpose of education is to teach and empower students / people for their future and to be able to function in society. Education is where others learn wether for their future or to further their own knowledge and understandings. Education is where we learn different ways to do things as well as the ability to explore new ideas and to be able to think independently and to learn from others. To learn we need to acknowledge the different ways in which people learn and allow for opportunities for different types of learning. Education does not always take place in a class room and we need to allow for these learning opportunities for our students.

How is this visible in my classroom?

In my classroom what we learn is displayed on the classroom walls as well as our class or student blogs.
Students within my class have the opportunities to share their learning with others from around the world by participating in global projects such as the 100 word challenge.
As a class we have participated in quadblogging. this is where other schools can comment on our learning and we can comment on others. This is another great way students can learn from others.
Children share their learning with their parents / whanu through their book work as well as parent, students teacher conferences.
What my class is learning is open for parents and the wider world to see through our class learning site. Students know what they are learning and what is expected of them. They are able to share and talk about what they have and are learning.
Within my class students have opportunities to work collaboratively with others/ buddy or  on  their own.  Their is opportunities for hands on learning, the use of technology as well as paper and pen.
As a teacher I also allow for learning opportunities outside of the classroom. These experience are valuable to students learning and knowledge.
